AFTN Family Cross Country
at Belle-Terre 2024

Context and objectives:

The Association of Families in Thônex Nord (AFTN), particularly the sports committee, is organizing the inaugural ‘Family Cross Country’ event in the Belle-Terre neighborhood. This initiative is part of the ‘Screen-Free Week’, a well-established event in Thônex, Chêne-Bourg, and Chêne-Bougeries. The primary aim is to promote a sports-oriented and welcoming event for families, encouraging active participation among residents while emphasizing a healthy and active lifestyle.

Partnerships and collaboration:

This initiative is the result of collaboration between AFTN, the municipality of Thônex, the residents’ association of Belle-Terre, the JADE association, and the APET, the organization of Thônex school parents responsible for the screen-free week. This collaboration aims to create an inclusive and unifying event involving various stakeholders from the local community.

Event details:

Date: morning of Sunday May 26, during the ‘Screen-Free Week’.
Location: Belle-Terre grounds, focusing on trails while minimizing road use.
Scheduled races:
  • 09:30 – Parents with children born in 2018-2019: 750m
  • 10:00 – Children born in 2016-2017: 750m (individual race)
  • 10:30 – Children born in 2014-2015: 1.5km
  • 11:00 – Children born in 2008-2013: 2.25km
  • 11:30 – Children born before 2008: 3km
  • 12:00 – Adults: 4.5km

*Detailed race day logistics such as warm-up times for each race, bib distribution, etc. will be shared after close of registration.

Event flow:

The Family Cross Country is designed as a friendly and family-oriented event, prioritizing a pleasant and inclusive atmosphere.

  • The registration fee per race will be CHF 10 per individual participant or CHF 18 per family, to cover organizational costs. Registration will be organized through the AFTN website (see below) and is only confirmed upon payment.
  • Timekeeping will be done in a non-digital way, each participant must wear a clearly visible number so that a volunteer can note it upon arrival.
  • As a pilot first edition, the number of participants per race will be limited to around twenty people, the exact number being flexible depending on family/sibling registrations.

Post-Event activities:

One or more food trucks will be present, to encourage interaction and camaraderie after the races.

Preparations:

There will be a course exploration on Monday, May 20 from 16:00-17:00. This will allow participants a chance to familiarize themselves with the course and terrain. Race organizers will be present to provide additional information and tips for the race day.

 

This ‘Family Cross Country’ aims to encourage active involvement from all community members, promote a healthy and active lifestyle, and strengthen bonds among Thônex Nord residents.
